SVG MISSION TRIP SEVEN - PART FOUR

GOT HOME WEDNESDAY AT MIDNIGHT
It was a very long and stressful day, but I am filled with gratitude.

FROM ONE AIRPORT TO ANOTHER
Wednesday morning

The taxi driver in St. Lucia stopped to take this picture on his way from one airport to the other. He also stopped to buy a banana for me to eat to show me how much better St. Lucia bananas are to all others.

WE DIDN'T KNOW IF IT WOULD HAPPEN
BUT
THE BIGGEST EVENT CAME ON THE VERY LAST DAY

THE OFFICIAL HANDING OVER OF THE SHIPPING CONTAINER OF BADLY NEEDED MEDICAL SUPPLIES AND FURNISHINGS FOR THE CATHOLIC PASTORAL CENTRE

Tuesday Afternoon

This event was covered by the TV station and newspapers.

The official program gave much of the credit to CATHOLIC SECOND WIND GUILD, but I spoke about the role of SOS in my remarks. The Catholic Church got a lot of attention and appreciation today. It is a minority in this island nation.

Official first look. It looked exactly like it did when I last saw it in Louisville.

The official welcoming committee of government and church representatives.

Minister of Health, Mr. Luke Browne, and I had a great laugh about something during his remarks

Showing the Minister of Health some of the medical supplies.

Msgr, Michael Stewart, Vicar General of the Diocese of Kingstown, represented Bishop County who was out of the country.

MEETING

THE MINISTER OF HEALTH

ONE OF THE BUSIEST PLACES IN THE CITY
Monday Noon

One of the busiest, and most modern, shops in downtown Kingstown is the cell phone company.
It was packed. We waited about an hour to be served.  It seems that even those considered poor would have, and most probably need, a cell phone.

RADIO INTERVIEW
AT
NICE RADIO
ABOUT MY INVOLVEMENT
IN
SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES

Tuesday Morning

This morning I was interviewed on NICE radio for 45 minutes about a wide ranging number of topics: where I am from, what I am doing down here, priesthood, celibacy, the Bible and charitable organizations in general.
I was interviewed by the station owner Douge DeFreitas, himself a devout Catholic. It was quite an experience to get this exposure to all the islands of this country.

Myself and Sheryl Mathews, NICE radio front desk.

RENOVATION SUCCESS STORY
THREE

My dream is to upgrade the Diocese of Kingstown Pastoral Center so that it will be a comfortable and workable place to receive retired adult volunteers in our CATHOLIC SECOND WIND program. We are slowly working our way through the various areas of the building: SAINT JAMES CHAPEL and CATHOLIC SECOND WIND headquarters are coming together quite nicely. We have begun to focus on the upstairs kitchen. Next, we hope to focus on the guest rooms.

THE PASTORAL CENTRE KITCHEN
The old reality.

THE NEW REALITY COMING INTO VIEW
This is definitely a sunny island color.

The appliances have arrived from the US and are out of the crates - big step forward!  All they need now is to be hooked up!

Still some incomplete spots, but we are getting there!

A few drawer facings yet to be installed, but we are getting there.
Besides, getting the wrong finish on the cabinets, which will be corrected, we have a major glitch with the second oven and built in microwave oven.  They keep cycling on and off for some reason. A trouble shooting call to GE is in the works.

It's still not done, but we are getting there! There are two major glitches - the ovens and the cabinets. The cabinets are not the ones we ordered and there is something amiss with the electrical connection to the second oven and built in microwave.
